I use yasql as a replacement for sqlplus.

Um... and emacs instead of vi ;-). (Well it is useful, you can run yasql or sqlplus inside an emacs shell buffer and get easy cut and pasting of text, scrollback history and so on - it also lets you get command history even with sqlplus.)
