But you have misunderstood why I asked you the question in the first place. The metalink article you mentioned says that the *first* thing you must do is to extract your control file from an RMAN backup. Yes, it also goes on to explain how you can extract USERS from an RMAN backup. That's not in dispute, merely irrelevant.
OK, Ron, I'll level with you: it was a trap. To the question "how does he extract USERS from his RMAN backups" you were supposed to answer (and did) "by first getting his control file out of the RMAN backups". As soon as you acknowledge that is the first step, you must then answer the question: "right, well what is now stopping him from simply recovering his original database?".
And that's the point.
