I have a RAC lab using 9i with NFS and it works perfectly with three two node clusters and reconfigured as a single six node cluster. This same set up is what Oracle itself uses in its local RAC lab.

Then again we both have NetApp filer heads. I have an F810 and the Oracle lab uses an 820 so the cost might be a bit steep for a home lab.
