Mission critical system + unsupported Oracle about 8 years old + 2-tier client/server FAT app + vendor will "support DB" ...

This sounds completely nuts!

So, what version are they requiring on the client - V7? Or, do they not care what version is on the client? What do clients do for other apps that require an Oracle client version that is just a LITTLE newer than V7?
