Funny, but a number of times when I've been asked this question, I give whatever answer, then later subtly probe the interviewer for what they think is a difficult situation, and then rattle off how simply and obviously I solved something similar. Sometimes this really nails it. Other times it just shows how really underwater the interviewer is.

So Ali, tell us, what is the most difficult situation u faced and how did u solved it ????

And more importantly, the interviewer needs to know what you think a difficult situation is. For me it has usually been no-win poor management situations, and I still don't know how to deal with that in an interview. So I take the question as a straight technical question, avoiding what for me is a difficult answer and steering the interview toward my strengths. Of course, one of my weaknesses is talking myself into a hole, so this doesn't always come out right. Sometimes I see interviewers giving sidelong glances to each other and I have to stop and simply ask "did I say something wrong?" only to discover I've just given a description of a problem identical to one they had. Sometimes this frightens people.

The one without the "u" in it :-)
