how to use external data with discoverer

Hi gurus ,

Is it possible to use an external data source (such as an excel file) with oracle discoverer and combine that data source with an oracle table without putting the external data inside the db server? Mu customer wants to use its pre-prepared excel or txt files as inputs to the discoverer queries. The customer says she can do this thing by using business objects, it allows to query an excel file and database table together.
