How did we get into this? Simple:

The middle management who recommended we hire el-cheapo tech people and who made all those nice presentations with lots of upward arrows in crap graphics have now received their bonuses for increasing profits at the expense of quality.

The vast majority of them have now "progressed" their "careers" out of IT (while they could) and are chewing the fat somewhere else. As usual without the slightest penalty for the crap they made everybody dig into.

Meantime, the new "breed" of middle managers are still trying to find which way is up and how not to get fired.

Wait for the next "big thing". That's gonna really solve all the problems. For sure. I swear. Cross my heart, hope to die. etcetc...
