Of course you might get problems with the upgrade (and I think I'd always run the scripts rather than use the GUI but that is probably irrelevant). You also might get problems with the exp/imp route as well - like be unable to export or unable to import the dump file. If you hit a bug you hit a bug. The point is that there are clear advantages and disadvantages of both methods and a blanket statement like 'use exp/imp don't use the upgrade path' will be likely wrong for some people. pointing people at the advantages and disadvantages tends to be more useful.
