Yes there is. The more, the merrier. Help the economy. SUN, IBM or HP will send you a card for Christmas. What you really need is a cluster of several HP 9000/Superdome servers, with 64 CPUs and 256GB RAM each clustered over EMC Symmetrix array connected to HP boxes using FC/AL adapters and with 64GB of write-back cache. Make sure you get the latest version of the hyperfabric to link the nodes together. Carly Fiorina will personally sign the Christmas card. If you don't shop, the terrorists will win.
The other solution is to ask oracle for references and customers in your industry and check those references. After that, you do an in-house benchmark to measure up proposed configurations and see how do they fit into your way of doing things. It will be much longer then just buying the hardware by usenet recommendations. If you want speed, the configuration above will likely satisfy your need. It could probably satisfy processing needs for Wal-Mart as well.
