Hi Joel,

Have a look at the opatch tool:

$ perl $ORACLE_BASE/OPatch/opatch.pl lsinventory

You will find OPatch at Metalink/Patch-Number: 2617419

You need metalink access to get it though.

Also have a look at
http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,3959,1120074,00.asp?kc=EWAV10209KTX1K010 0440 - beware of wrapping of the URL. a recent article where Mary Ann Davidson says Oracle are writing a free patch checker and free scanning tool.

I have asked Mary Ann about the patch tool and she said it is not opatch - it is an Oracle Enterprise Manager facility that (in addition to other health checks) will determine whether you have applied critical security patches.

Watch out for it.

hth

kind regards

Pete
