8 - 10 minutes is incredibly long for 2GB to write. I'd have my adpater checked - I've seen RAID-5 adapters with a throughput worse that a 486 with an RLL disk! After replaceing the adpater things were back to normal (but RAID-5 does have a write penalty!)
