Re: Clone from hot backup

Following up on my question and the various responses - Thanks!

Apparently I was confused by the fact that I no longer get the message:
Log applied.
Media recovery complete.

after processing the last log file. Instead I have to cancel the recovery to get:
Media recovery cancelled.

then proceed with:
alter database open resetlogs;

I have performed three clones with this change and feel comfortable that everything is going to be ok.

The basic procedure is to:
Online Backup -

• put all the tablespaces into backup mode
• copy all the datafiles
• take all the tablespaces out of backup mode
• alter system switch logfile;
• copy the archive logs Clone to Test -
• shutdown Test
• remove Test's datafiles and archive logs
• copy production datafiles and archive logs to Test directories
• create and execute a "startup mount/create controlfile" script from a production trace file
• recover database using backup controlfile until cancel; (process one archive log, then cancel)
• alter database open resetlogs;
• drop and recreate tablespace TEMP
• alter database rename global_name...
• long list of changes to tables and users to change production to test
