True. There are a number of reasons why you might not use the dbca though, for example you might want dictionary managed tablespaces for some apps, you might be using std edition and want a valid archive log destination set.

As far as disadvantages of init.ora over spfile are concerned I'm not really clear what they are (outside of a RAC environment).
