In this situation I'm not backing up to tape. We plan to continue our system of backing up to disk and then copying from disk to tape the next day. I realize that probably sounds stupid given the RMAN capabilities to backup right to both disk and tape, and I don't doubt that in the future we'll probably be using RMAN to do both. But I'm trying to reduce the variables for each change.
