IMP-00037: Character set marker unknown

Hello all,

I just did a full export from Oracle 8.1.7 on Solaris 8. The export terminated successfully without warnings and I got a ~1.3GB .dmp file as I expected. I didn't use any compression. I FTP'd the .dmp file to my dev server and ran imp, which says:

IMP-00037: Character set marker unknown
IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully

I re-ran the export, again FTP'd the file in binary mode, and got the same result again.

A few days ago I was able to import a file exported form this same database. Is there something that would cause a database to begin producing only corrupted export files?

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Phil Thompson
