Home -> Community -> Usenet -> c.d.o.server -> Too many Oracle kernel extensions on AIX ??
Hi everyone,
To all you kind Oracle folks, I'm an AIX sysdamin, not a DBA - hence the cross posting from comp.unix.aix.
One of my DBA colleagues is having problems with an Oracle 8.1.7.2 to 8.1.7.4 upgrade on a P690 LPAR running AIX 5.1, ML03.
Rooting around ( pun kind of intended ) I see that there appear to be FOUR "copies" - not sure what else to call them - of pw-syscall running.
Every piece of Oracle documentation that I've been able to find refers to loading an extension ( in the singular ).
Evidence ?
/etc/loadext -q /etc/pw-syscall
Oracle Kernel Extension Loader for AIX
Copyright (c) 1998,1999 Oracle Corporation
Extension /etc/pw-syscall found with kmid: 0x204cae4
So far, so good - just a single extension. But,
echo lke | kdb | grep pw-syscall returns:
1 05F5DD00 0204ABF8 00001024 00000273 /etc/pw-syscall 3 05F5D480 02049BC8 00001024 00000273 /etc/pw-syscall 5 05A26480 02048B98 00001024 00000273 /etc/pw-syscall 7 05A0BB00 02047B68 00001024 00000273 /etc/pw-syscall
Could this 1:4 relationship be responsible for (amongst other things):

>> When relinking Oracle Financials on Oracle 8.1.7.2 on AIX 5
Other AIX boxes - running AIX 4.3.3 and 5.1 and Oracle 8 instances show a 1:1 relationship.
We have failed to remove these multiple extensions using both loadext -u and slibclean.
We do plan to reboot in the near future. We will disable the /etc/inittab entry and view the state of the kernel before and after a manual load of the extension [ not extensions ;-) ]
In the meantime, has anybody encountered this situation before ?
Is there another way to flush out these extensions if loadext -u and slibclean wont do it ?
Thanks in advance.
Nick.
