I hope you didn't store the repository within the same database that you are hoping to use OEM to manage? Should have been a brand new database.

So what's your hostname? You mention that "khar" is the name of your instance, but usually that's not the same thing at all as your host name (The name of the box you are running "khar" on).

What happens when you ping khar at the O/S command line? If the O/S can't resolve the host name, then what chance does OEM have?

I wonder why, too. But since "khar.prod.db.com" sounds suspiciously like a global database name and not a hostname, I'm probably not surprised: if you can't distinguish between a hostname and a database name, this isn't going to work. As for that IP address... is it real??

There's a lot to check here. Can I suggest you download my paper on installing Oracle 9.2 on Red Hat 9? Ignore the first 3 chapters, which are Red Hat-specific. But start looking at the networking and OEM chapters.

And find out how your machine is actually configured. You need to know it's real hostname, and that hostname is going to have to be resolvable across a network -and none of that actually has anything to do with Oracle at all.

You'll also need an intelligent agent, and possibly re-configure your listener. Again, the paper talks you through that.

Regards
HJR
