I can confirm that SAP requirement: was the victim of it myself a few years ago during a SAP install. Their "rule book" was written ages ago, mostly from shared "experiences" from the "best DBAS in the world" and such. And no one has ever bothered setting it right since. After all, what better excuse could they find to move their customers to their usual turf: the mainframe? Just blame Oracle for needing all this "expensive" maintenance. This from a company that charges their services and third party ones at triple the rate of everyone else...

Nothing wrong with that in my book. I prefer you folks say it black and white than any other PC approach: waste of time otherwise.
