lock table lock release

Hi,

I have seen that a 'lock table xxx in exclusive mode' puts a lock on to the table xxx but it releases the lock in about a day. Has anyone seen this? I
expect that the lock would be held indefintely as long as the transaction is not committed or rolled back.

Also, my user profile is set to DEFAULT. So there are not session timeouts.
