  1. Open your INIT.ORA in Notepad, vi, emacs, or whatever. It is located in your BDUMP directory.
  2. Find the COMPATIBLE string.
  3. Change the value on the right side of the equals sign to the newer, higher value.
  4. Save your changes
  5. Shutdown and startup the db for the changes to take affect.
