Have tried Mandrake9, Redhat9, etc. All problematic if it comes to Oracle9R2. It seems the latest kernel + glibc's are not suitable for Oracle. The java gui is also very unstable on these versions (unable to save oms preferred credentials & many crashes). SUSE8.1 on the otherhand works great. No need for glibc downgrades, no need for LD_ASSUME_KERNEL settings, etc.. Plain installation out of the box, everything works solid. Am running 3 oracle instances on my laptop with oem and dataguard. No crashes for the past 3 weeks.
