Thanks again for trying to help

A fact that may matter here is that, I do have the Oracle9i Software installed in an AIX jfs filesystem and only the database files are the ones going to the Veritas Raw partitions. Perhaps it would make the difference if I would had the Oracle Software installed on a Veritas Filesystem and then try to use Veritas Raw devices for the database files. In Oracle RAC this fact is transparent, ie the Oracle software can live in a different filesystem from where the datafiles live ( Raw devices are required in RAC).

Best,

I did it with both (one at the time, first directly to the Veritas raw devices and then
via a soft link) and same error output.

As I indicated in the original posting, the create database script worked on raw devices if controlled by the AIX LVM. BUT, for some reason is not doing this if I use Raw devices controlled by the Vertias VM (vxvm).

Are you pointing directly to the raw device or to a link to the raw

device?

I'll check with the UNIX SA that put together the box I am working on and see if he has any ideas. If you don't hear back from me ... contact Veritas and/or open an iTAR with Oracle. -- Daniel Morgan http://www.outreach.washington.edu/ext/certificates/oad/oad_crs.asp http://www.outreach.washington.edu/ext/certificates/aoa/aoa_crs.asp damorgan_at_x.washington.edu
