So, we use oracle because our CAD system requires it. Classical canned app. Said "requires oracle enterprise" on the outside, uses basically the mysql subset on the inside (except one package they could have coded around and a couple of triggers, ditto because they put demons in front of the db anyway).
Great. Why'd we still take it? Because it was the only product that satisfied two
conditions: the company could demonstrate a working system and it was the only
one using any relational db at all.
