I think the problem isnt necessarily Oracle...it is a complete lack of understanding in databases in general in the IT field.

When a UNIX administrator has to ask me why I am against NFS mounting my datafiles, or why my entire db cant be on raw disk I shudder. I have also been asked why my data warehouse cant be run in MySQL. Or why a SQL Server person cant write Oracle SQL (Gee, its just SQL right;)

Anyhoo, my .02 on that.

(PS: I am aware of Network Appliance and Oracle's endorsement of their NFS mounts. I have worked with these machines and I can tell you first-hand to wait another 20 years...they suck for Oracle data warehousing). Received on Fri Sep 12 2003 - 12:39:06 CDT
