Why do you think it is a problem? What tangible benefit is there to having a single file?

Yeah, I also think it "nice" to have a single SYSTEM tablespace datafile. But beer is also nice. No justification needed. :-)

BTW, I hope that the file system name Oracle7 does not imply that you are still running Oracle 7? If so.. it will be a darn good idea to upgrade to 9i. ASAP.
