this is what i did...

  1. did a restore
  2. copy the missing datafiles to the new server
  3. startup
  4. of course, oracle will complain of which it will
  5. backup our control file and recreate it
  6. recover database using backup controlfile until cancel
  7. will prompt for which online log file
  8. alter database open resetlogs
  9. and it works....
