Of course exp 8.1.6 won't work with an 8.0.5 database... but that's what the exp 8.0.5 is there for. It will export the 8.0 database into an 8.0- compatible dump file. And import is backwardly-compatible, so your 8.1.6- version of imp will be able to read the 8.0 dumpfile without a problem.

Just navigate directly to the ORACLE_HOME/bin directory for the 8.0 database, and launch export from there. Then do likewise with the 8.1.6 ORACLE_HOME/bin to make sure you run the 8.1.6 version of the import utility.
