I don't want to be proscriptive about this, but Oracle simply does not work properly on RH9. The posts here on the subject have been lengthy, convoluted, and when someone posted that 'of course it worked', they went on to admit that the Management Server wouldn't start up properly. Either that or the Database Configuration Assistant wouldn't launch. Or something else indicating that, basically, Oracle just doesn't work as advertised on RH9.

Switch back to RH8, where it all works just fine, except for one minor linking problem at the 86% mark of the linking phase of the original install -and even that is fixed with just one quick edit of a particular .mk file. After which everything works 'as advertised'.

Apparently, RH9 broke quite a few applications by including new C libraries. Oracle's not the only thing affected.
