Yes it's possible. I've had quite loaded 8.0 systems on NT4.0 which had been running for 3 months (sic!) before blue screen of death ;) Afterwards we implemented periodic reboots to keep Windows running.

It's not possible to put Oracle 24*7 and performance concepts in one post, neither is it a task which can be done in one day, thus I'd start with Sybrands advices, then get a good 24*7 book on Oracle & High availability.
