Hi all

FYI ... I have a Solaris 7 server .I had faced problems while installing Oracle 8.1.7
The error was "Thrown when ip cannot be determined " options give were retry ,ignore continue cancle .When I clicked on retry ,same error. On clicking on continue the install would continue but the oracle never communicated with listener .

I found from the group that it could be due to gethostname () function failing to get hostname ...

(Ping hostname would work fine . network was setup ok every thing seemed ok)

I tried to write a C script to run gethostname() .. it failed .

Later I just added the entry <hostname>.<domain> in my DNS and rebooted the server . Ran the install ,it went through without errors ...

Thanx and Regards
