Good for Oracle support. I have heard similar stories in 'Prod down' situations. Well done Oracle!

Touch wood, I have not yet been in that situation myself, but IMHO this is another reason for trusting a grown-up database company when the chips are down, and this is why we pay the license/support fees.

Nevertheless, I'd always recommend going to the terminal release of a given version if at all practicable. If we can't persuade our 8.0.4 users to test properly and upgrade, the very least we can do is to get them to conduct a minimal test, and patch to 8.0.6. Same goes for the 8.1.5 users; if we can convince them to go to 8.1.7.4, all to the good. And the 9i to release 3.

But these days, the business is reluctant to spend money on fixing any app which isn't broken; supported or not. And I must confess, it's not always easy to sell the benefits.
