yea, make sure PAE is enabled in kernel, but...

If your going to spend top dollar to run IBM, top dollar to run Oracle, why skimp on the OS??? Doesnt make sense. Enterprise class hardware, enterprise class software, but not enterprise class OS? RH 8 Pro is described even by RH as a desktop/workstation OS.

So, I would suggest RH AS 2.1. Support lots of RAM (16GB), lots of CPUs (8) and is a logical platform your your hardware / software combo.
