We are trying to install Oracle 9i release 2 on Redhat Linux 8 professional
(kernal 2.4.2.20-18.8bigmem) on an IBM x255 server, 4 processors, 12GB
memory. Linux can see the 12GB of memory as reported by free. What we are having trouble with is starting Oracle with more than 2GB of SGA. We have configured bigpages correctly we believe, but still receive the the error: ora-00439 feature not enabled Very Large Memory All documentation that we have been able to find indicate that only RedHat Advance Server can handle this (nothing says proffesional cannot). Has anyone done this on Redhat Linux 8 professional? Version 9 help at all?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
