Right, of course,
in my eagerness to help I fogot to see that he was trying to do a hot
backup.
I suggested the solving of the hanging problem and missed the big picture.
Of course he needs archive log for hot backups.
Thanx for pointing this out. He needs to enable automatic archiving .
Which it seems he has picked up on.
