Any platform that uses the Intel Pentium 4 processor, with Sun JRE and
Symantec JIT will encounter this problem. Windows NT, Windows 2000,
and NetWare operating systems are confirmed to be affected.
Currently there is not a patched Installer available to deal with this problem. One of the workarounds listed below must be used.
Workarounds
Workaround 1:
Rename symcjit.dll to symcjit.dll.old
5. Invoke the OUI executable from the following directory, and install the
OUI to your hard disk:
cd .\cd\Disk1\install\win32\setup.exe6.
Use/Invoke this installed OUI from Start menu > Programs, to install
Oracle 8.1.x and related products.
Workaround 2:
Workaround 3:
If you continue to experience any of the symptoms after performing
either of
the workarounds above, follow these steps:
JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS=-nojit -ms16m -mx32m
5. Save the oraparam.ini file.
6. Start the installation again.
I have tried out workaround 2 and 3 which perfectly works. Remember
you have to run the setup.exe from the \install\win32\setup.exe.
Running setup.exe from the root folder also works but in my case the
setup hung at 63% and never got completed. Running the setup from
\install\win32\setup.exe successfully installed Oracle.
On can also opt for downloading "patch number 1507768 " from
metalink.oracle.com. But I didn't try this one.
