Yes, in my previous occupation when I turned 19 I wrote and recieved my blasters certificate for the province of british columbia, at the time they told me I was the youngest holder of one in Canada as the minumum age was 19. I loved working with explosives themselves, but hated the drilling part, too noisy & dusty. I mostly did road construction in the logging industry, and the freelancing part was blowing up stumps for farmers, danger trees for tree-fallers, big rocks in swimming pool installs etc.. Controlled blasting was fun, using 10 and 20 millisecond delays in your loads to try and contain the rock, as it was desirable to keep it in one place rather than send it flying down the mountainside.

The blasters I trained with were a grizzled old lot, usually piss-tanks that broke every rule in the book. When I wrote the test I basically just answered with the opposite of all that I had seen so far and passed with almost 100% I remember once we were running short of fuse so we had to go to 1 foot lengths (40 seconds) rather than the legally required 3 footers (2 minutes) , being the youngest on the crew, hence the fastest I was elected (unanimously) by the other 2 to light the fuse and run like hell to dive under the machines before the $hit started to fly!

ahhh - good times!
