You shouldn't decide for the need of SAN based on just one database, SAN should be a decision based on analysis of your company's or departments whole infrastructure for information systems.

From my personal experience, about half of my customers use some sort of SANs (of course there's difference between some cheap 10-disk box with some FO cards or multiplexed EMC Symmetrix arrays, so meaning of the term might vary).
