I know both Boeing and the gummint use stuff with COBOL in it, sometimes buried deep with an interface to Oracle. That does not mean they don't use better stuff elsewhere, and it doesn't mean that where there is ridiculously obsolete stuff, that all stuff is bad. If you aren't stuck with it _all_ the time, it can be fun! The trick, of course, is remaining current, not letting the crap take over your life.

So let's not harass the poor schmucks that do have to work on old crap, let's help them when we can. There's nothing wrong with pointing out obvious management issues, though. The juicier the better, I say.
