Grant select any tables to user

Will the statement


grant select any tables to Peter;



allow Peter to run a select statement on a table created by SYS?




I did just that but I got the following error



ERROR at line 1:


ORA-00942: table or view does not exist



Did I miss some privileges that I should have granted to Peter?
