Personally I don't think running version earlier than Oracle 8.1.7 is a problem. The most out of all is it can accomplish what you want. Applying Oracle is not the same as choosing M$ windows. You should not have a tentation to persuit the lastest version as long as it works and you don't have a better choice(including function & cost).
