| We are running 32-bit Oracle 8.1.7 on a Sun Sparc3 6800 (64-bit) with
| Solaris 8. The reason was that when we originally created the database
| 64-bit Oracle on Sun was not yet available.
|
| We now want to install and make use of 64-bit Oracle. What is the
| procedure for doing this? Is is simply a matter of installing the new
| 64-bit executables and libraries? Do we have to do any conversion of
| data files?
|
| Any hints or pointers to things to be aware of are welcome.
|

64-bit or 32-bit should be seen as a different platforms. The actions you have to do are similar as if you move a database from for example Windows 2000 to Sun Solaris.
- Install 8.1.7 64-bit in a new Oracle home (and patch to 8.1.7.4) - Rebuild the database using exp/imp. To my knowledge Oracle has no migration/conversion tool for this. Received on Wed May 21 2003 - 02:13:44 CDT
