We are running 32-bit Oracle 8.1.7 on a Sun Sparc3 6800 (64-bit) with Solaris 8. The reason was that when we originally created the database 64-bit Oracle on Sun was not yet available.

We now want to install and make use of 64-bit Oracle. What is the procedure for doing this? Is is simply a matter of installing the new 64-bit executables and libraries? Do we have to do any conversion of data files?

Any hints or pointers to things to be aware of are welcome.

regards
