The CD Pack should have arrived with a little booklet that explains what is in the pack and what the licensing agreement is all about. Bottom line - you have installed your product and you are not in trial IF you have received Oracle's license paperwork.

For a variety of reasons (save handling cost, encourage trials of unlicensed product, etc.), Oracle ships their products in CD Packs. The installer allows you to select what you install, and you are encouraged to install [at least] what you have licensed.

I suggest you also read the Oracle 'Family' document at http://otn.oracle.com/products/oracle9i/pdf/9idb_rel2_prod_fam.pdf

which you can access using the following steps: http://otn.oracle.com > product information [left menu] > database > Oracle9i database > "Oracle9i Database: A Family of Database Products"

(I encourage the steps - there is a lot of other useful stuff on the final page)

IIRC, the instructions are there primarily for disk space recovery.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I don't think Oracle's license management group is going to chase one person with a single Personal license - they have their hands full with mega-corp's hundreds of un-/mis-licensed CPUs. Aside from that, the document I reference actually states

"Oracle9i Personal Edition is available on Windows2000, Windows NT, and Windows XP. It includes at no extra cost all features and options that are available with Oracle9i Enterprise Edition, such as Oracle Partitioning and Oracle Advanced Security, with the exception of the Oracle Real Application Clusters option."

So you are indeed covered. The only thing you need to concern yourself about - I believe Personal is licensed by Named User & you "are the name" ... you (theoretically) can not lend it to another. On the other hand, you can legally create as many userids in the database as you desire. And you can create as many instances as your machine will handle.
