This stuff is asked & answered frequently - expect grumpy/sarcastic/caustic
responses especially since it is very, very well documented on the Oracle site.
A few points of interest, leading you to the answers for this and other related
questions:
- extending licenses for an existing database may require re-licensing to
current license 'metrics' or may be governed by your existing contract. For
this, contact Oracle. North America - just phone their 1-800 number (listed on
http://www.oracle.com > Company Information > Contact Oracle) if you don't
have/like/understand your field rep.
- new licenses and the prices are covered by the licensing as described on
http://oraclestore.oracle.com
- you don't even have to talk to an oracle rep. I buy most of my stuff directly
from the Oracle Store (http://oraclestore.oracle.com) using a credit card.
(mostly I buy small stuff <g> but it's all licenses!)
- current license metrics are defined and sample useage is given at
http://www.oracle.com -> (on the left side, click on) Pricing & Licensing ->
(left side, click on) "Price Lists" or "Software Investment Guide" or "Specialty
Topics"
- a quick and excellent summary of what is in each of Personal, Standard,
Enterprise and which options are extra cost and which options go with which
edition is available on line at http://otn.oracle.com > (left side, under
Resources, click on) "Product Information" > (center, in the tab box called
Database, click on) "Oracle9i Database" > (center, under Technical Information,
click on) "PDF" in front of "Oracle9i Database: A Family of Database Products"
