Somewhere, at the end of the rainbow, there should be
something called alert_$ORACLE_SID.log. ORACLE_SID should
be set and exported in your envirnment. In the same diretctory
which is usually called "bdump" (find / -type d -name bdump -print
should reveal the location) thee should be a nice and friendly set
of files with ".trc" extension. You have several options what
to do with them:
a) Publish them in your local newspaper and ask Martha Stewart what
to do with them? That has never really worked but the possibilities
are intriguing.
b) Publish them here and hope that you will not run into a wise cracking
guy like me. Chances for the happy ending are slim. I am omnipresent. On the other hand, I will try to help after the necessary abuse. c) Use Metalink (www.metalink.oracle.com) and call oracle support.
The number is (800) 223-1711. This usually works and doesn't expose you to the nasty humor of a senior DBA waiting for @$%#! RMAN to restore a database so that he could recover it at 5A.M. (EST).
