There are two very objective measures of a product's impact on the market.

  1. Demand for employees: A quick trip to dice.com, monster.com, and hotjobs.com indicates no erosion Worldwide: 997 jobs for DB2, 3786 for Oracle
  2. Demand for training materials: A quick trip to amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, etc. indicate no erosion 226 books on DB2, 1095 on Oracle

So far DB2 is not making an impact where it matters to anyone except IBM and Oracle stockholders. And
I don't own stock in either company so why would I care.
