Just because you can map the drive doesn't mean you have permission to write to it. Have you checked permissions? And it certainly doesn't mean this is a "good thing." If the remote machine goes down or you loose the network connection your database will hang. And what happens if some server admin type decides they have a better use for your chosen drive letter, and doesn't inform you that as of last week, 'x:' is defined corporate wide as pointing to a universally accessible folder for storing shared MS Office documents? And since that date an ADMINistrative ASSistant has been doing daily houskeeping in that folder, deleting anything that wasn't a .doc or .xls file?
