Thanks for that but I have installed the ODBC software referenced by oracle @ http://otn.oracle.com/software/content.html

I have looked around there sites for instructions but nothing that assists me.
The ODBC driver for 7 does not appear to ask for a server , username and pwd.

upgrading the verison of Oracel is not an option.
