Oracle supports:

• client-server, non-Java using SQL*Net (aka Net8, Oracle Networking) on the client
• client-server, Java using thin-JDBC
• N-tier using ? to the middle tier and SQL*Net/Oracle Networking from middle tier to database
• Corba and other similar technology
