Most of the books out there won't help you much. The one that might have, Tom Kyte's, no longer is available as WROX is out of business.

My suggestion would be as follows:

  1. Download a copy of Oracle 9i Enterprise Edition from http://www.oracle.com for Linux or purchase the CD demo pack from http://store.oracle.com
  2. Read the 'concept' and 'architecture' documents at http://tahiti.oracle.com
  3. Before installation get and read the installation documents available at http://docs.oracle.com

The biggest issue for you will be unlearning SQL Server / Sybase concepts, architecture, etc. They just don't work in Oracle.
